너 이 책 읽어봤어? 

 

B: Yes, I have.

응, 읽어봤어.

 

 The story is very scary. 

그 이야기는 너무 무서워. 

 

G: Is it?

그래?

 

In my opinion, it’s a sad story. 

내 의견에는, 그건 슬픈 이야기야.

 

 B: Well, it could be.

글쎄, 그럴 수도 있겠네.

B: Have you seen this movie?

너 이 영화 봤어? 

 

G: Yes, I have.

응, 봤어. 

 

It’s one of the best movies I’ve ever seen.

그건 내가 봤던 최고의 영화중 하나야. 

 

B: You seem to like it a lot.

그거를 정말 좋아하는 것 같구나. 

 

To me, it’s just an old movie.

나한테는, 그저 오래된 영화야. 

 

G: How can you possibly say that?

어떻게 그렇게 말할수가 있니?

 

 In my view, it is just wonderful.

내가 보기에, 그건 그냥 훌륭해.

B: Isn’t this painting strange?

이 그림이 이상하지 않니? 

 

G: Well, I think it’s beautiful.

글쎄, 내 생각에 그건 아름다워.

 

B: Hmm ..., after taking a second look, there is something beautiful about the painting.

흠… 두 번째로 보니까 그 그림에는 무언가 아름다운 것이 있네. 

 

G: Hey, you don’t have to agree with me.

이봐, 나한테 동의하지 않아도 돼.

G: Did you hear that a new ice cream store opened last week?

지난주에 새로운 아이스크림 가게가 오픈한 것을 들었니? 

 

B: Sure. 

물론이지,

 

I have already been there. 

나는 이미 거기에 가 봤어. 

 

G: Have you? 

그래?

 

How was it? 

어땠어? 

 

B: The ice cream was great.

아이스크림은 훌륭했어. 

 

G: How was the price?

가격은 어땠어? 

 

B: Well, it was very high.

글쎄, 가격은 너무 비쌌어. 

 

I was not happy about it.

마음에 들지 않았어.

B: There are a lot of people here.

여기에는 많은 사람들이 있어. 

 

G: Yes, there are. 

응, 맞아.

 

It’s been 30 minutes since we ordered. 

우리가 주문한지 30분이 지났어. 

 

B: The service is so slow.

서비스가 너무 느려.

 

I’m not happy about it.

마음에 들지 않아. 

 

G: Look at those people over there.

저쪽에 있는 저 사람들 봐봐. 

 

They are being served now.

그들은 음식을 받고 있어.

 

B: Didn’t we come in earlier?

우리가 더 빨리 오지 않았나? 

 

G: Yes, we did. 

맞아,

 

It’s not fair. 

그건 공정하지 않아.

 

Conversation

Yujin: Did your family go out to eat last weekend?

너희 가족은 지난 주말에 외식을 했니? 

 

Seho: Yes, we did. 

응, 했어.

 

The food was great, but my family is too big and loud. 

음식은 훌륭했지만, 우리 가족은 너무 많고 시끄러워. 

 

Yujin: Really? 

정말? 

 

How big is it?

얼마나 많은데? 

 

Seho: There are seven of us : my grandparents, my mom, my dad, two brothers, and me.

일곱명이 있어, 조부모님, 엄마, 아빠, 형 두명, 그리고 나 

 

Yujin: That is a big family!

진짜 큰 가족이다! 

 

Seho: Well, I don’t like it at all.

음, 난 그게 정말 싫어. 

 

There’s no privacy.

사생활이 없거든. 

 

Yujin: I get what you’re saying, but to me, it’s good to have a big family.

너가 무슨 말을 하는지는 알겠지만, 나는 가족이 많은게 좋은 것 같아. 

 

I sometimes feel lonely because I’m an only child.

나는 외동딸이기 때문에 가끔 외롭다고 느껴. 

 

Seho: Yeah ..., I see what you mean.

그래… 무슨 말인지 알겠어.

 

Real-Life Task

W: People often say, “I’m not happy about my family.”

사람들은 말합니다, "나는 내 가족이 마음에 들지 않아요" 라고. 

 

But we have a different story.

하지만 우리는 다른 이야기가 있습니다. 

 

We asked 2,000 people, “With whom do you feel happiest?”

우리는 2,000명의 사람들에게 물어봤어요, "누구와 있을 때 가장 행복한가요? 

 

More than half of them feel happiest when they are with their family.

절반이 넘는 사람들이 가족과 함께 있을 때 가장 행복하다고 합니다. 

 

The second largest number of people are happiest with their friends.

두 번째로 많은 사람들이 친구와 있을 때 가장 행복하다고 합니다. 

 

Interestingly, around 13% of the people we asked feel happiest when alone.

흥미롭게도, 우리가 질문한 대략 13%의 사람들은 홀로 있을 때 가장 행복함을 느낍니다.
